Jewish Wedding Ceremonies

Near the end of the traditional Jewish Wedding Ceremony, it is customary that a glass, contained in a decorative pouch, is placed on the floor. The chatan (the groom) proceeds to shatter the glass with his foot resulting in “Many Pieces, Many Years, and Many Blessings Together…” for the happy couple. Those in attendance respond with an enthusiastic “Mazel Tov”!

Purchase you Jewish Glass Breaking Pouch – Malel Tov! With Star of David embroidery and begin a family tradition. Pass down the pouch to future children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! Do the same with our Traditional Jewish Bride & Groom hand painted porcelain cake topper!

Wedding Blunders – Little things that can Make or Break your wedding Day Look!

Artificial Eyelashes –
Adding extra glam to your eyes can really make your look. But be careful – there are a right way & a wrong way to apply these. Have the applied professionally or practice ahead of time or you’ll be loosing them before your day begins.

Hair “Wings” –
Although subtle, no one wants to look ready for take off! Tame those locks with tighter curls or a get to smooth fly-aways.

Bronzer –
Arguably, most brides want a little sun-kissed color on their wedding day, but orange is only chic in fashion & home décor. Test your bronzers & self tanners well in advance to avoid color clash.

Rosy Cheeks-
A rosy cheek is flattering on every girl but be careful not to overdo it. If all they see are your cheeks you know you’ve gone to far.

Lip Liner –
When it comes to lip liner, contrast is NOT a good thing. Lip line & blend with a matching lipstick so the two colors merge seamlessly.

Bobby Pins-
Black bobby pins and blonde hair DO NOT GO TOGETHER! EVER! Use pins that closely match your hair color so they are not visible. If this isn’t possible then try a sparkly barrette!

Wedding Planning Tips from Brides & their Mom’s!

1. Start planning early! Leave yourself plenty of time to research & order.
2. Make a timeline & stick to it! Or use a Wedding Planner Book or print out (see our free wedding planning post on April 25th, 2009).
3. Let your family & friends help.
4. If you don’t like it, don’t do it! Don’t let family & friends talk you into things you are not sure about or simply don’t like.
5. Keep a journal & memory box capturing experiences, emails between family & friends, cards, invitations and special mementos.

Remember the wedding isn’t just about one person. Include the groom (as long as he wants to be included . . . pushing him won’t make him happy & it won’t make your wedding planning experience a happy one!)

TIP: If the groom doesn’t want to participate, ask your mom, mother-in-law to be, maid of honour / matron of honour, bridesmaid(s), sister, friend, cousin . . . don’t be discouraged if he doesn’t want to take part in the planning. Wedding planning doesn’t interest every man & it doesn’t mean that the wedding isn’t important to him! He just may not want to be involved in the many tasks involved in planning the wedding. Include him where he wants to be included & do the rest with everyone else! After years of assisting brides in wedding planning, notice I said brides not couples, most times the bride does all the research & brings him back when she’s got it narrowed down to what she likes. Most times the groom just wants the bride to be happy! Many, many times I never even met the groom!

Bridal Jewellery Trends

Today's wedding jewelry trends span many styles and themes. Brides, wedding party members, family, and guests are using wedding celebrations as special opportunities to get creative with personal adornment.

Earrings, necklaces and bracelets designed for wedding-wear are often styled to complement the whites and ivories of traditional wedding dresses. But wedding jewelry can also be used to enhance the personalized theme of a wedding, or even to match carefully-placed color accents on a bridal gown. And since it's becoming popular for brides and their party to change outfits between the wedding and reception there's often a need for two distinct sets of jewelry for one wedding day.

Here are some of this year's most popular wedding jewelry trends:

Chandeliers - The chandelier earring styles we've grown to love for everyday-jewelry make dramatic wedding trends when adorned with pearls or crystals. Chandeliers can also take the form of elegant necklace stations or pendants.

20th Century vintage - The romantic styles of the 1920s, '30s, and '40s - from Art Deco to Old Holywood - are perfect for any elegant wedding, not just themed ceremonies. Look for sparkling faceted stones and quality vintage glass beads.

Drapey drops and multiple layers - Many brides will take advantage of the bold, multi-layer necklace look this year. We'll see lots of drapey strands, often surrounding eye-catching centerpieces. Layers may be adorned with pearls, crystal beads, and even less-traditional materials like mother-of-pearl or moonstone gemstones.

Contemporary pearls - Pearls of all shapes and sizes are everywhere this year, and they're readily available in non-traditional, dyed colors in addition to classic creams and whites. Some brides are adding color accents to their wedding gowns, and colorful pearls can be beautiful matching accompaniments.

Hair jewelry and tiaras - Tiaras and other jeweled hair accents are popular feminine favorites worn not only by brides, but by their wedding parties and guests as well. Traditional tiaras are crafted from wire, beads, crystals, and rhinestones. Jeweled Combs and beaded hair pins are also available for a more subtle look. For the bride and her party wearing updos, specialty hair picks can add a fun and unique finishing touch.

Ribbon-band watches - No one wants to arrive late to a wedding - especially not to her own! Today there are lots of fabulous watch styles that make very appropriate wedding wear. For example, the trendy new ribbon watches are feminine, a little bit formal, and can be matched to a wedding's color theme. Vintage style and true-vintage metal watches, some adorned with dainty rhinestones, also make beautiful wedding day accents.
